A Series of 1923 $1 Large Size Silver Certificate 'Blue Seal' Star Note Fr#238* with signatures Woods/White and Serial # *20569834D graded Very Fine 20 NET with an annotation for 'Rust' and 'Small Tears' by PMG. This note displays an original paper color with light discoloration, visible rust on the obverse & reverse and very nice even margins. Small internal tear above the 'A' in CERTIFICATE. Large size silver certificates were a form of paper currency produced from 1878 - 1923 and were issued as a type of representative money. Initially made in response to the Fourth Coinage Act which placed the United States under the gold standard, the bills were meant to be redeemed for their face value in silver coin and later from June 1967 - June 1968 in raw silver bullion.
