Established on April 1st, 1933, the Farmers Bank of China was the consolidation of several provincial agricultural banks within central China. Created to provide lines of credit to farmers and individuals with large land holdings, these credit loans were designed to assist in the purchase of commercial equipment (i.e. plows, harvesters, irrigation systems, etc) to cultivate the land. The Farmers Bank of China was allowed to issue its own banknotes until 1942. During the outbreak of World War 2, the bank was forced to relocate once in 1937 and again in 1949. On May 1st, 2006, the bank was bought out by Taiwan Cooperative Bank.
