Product Description
An 1844 (Philadelphia Mint) Braided Hair large cent (Newcomb (N-3) variety) graded Mint State 63 Brown (MS-63 BN) by NGC with a label error stating the incorrect year 1884. This large cent displays rich brown tones with an iridescent deep purple infusion, original red highlights with the sharply struck device edges, a light luminous original luster appears beneath the richly toned surfaces and the surfaces are extraordinarily clean for the grade with minimal distractions. A faint old fingerprint appears around the 4-5 o'clock area on the obverse. The Newcomb 3 variety boasts the light die crack that starts within the dentils and runs through the top of the last 'A' and bottom portions of 'RIC' in AMERICA which then disappears into the wreath and emerges through the leaves beneath 'OF' on the reverse. Nice heavy rim cuds have formed on the obverse between 12 - 2 o'clock. The total mintage for this date: 2,398,752.
