Product Description

A 1938 D Walking Liberty Half Dollar 50c. Silver Graded F12 by NGC. A beautiful original piece, scarce date to find! Would fit perfectly in any half dollar collection. Total mintage on this date & mintmark: 491,600.

The Walking Liberty half dollar was a silver dollar minted from 1916-1947. Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, his depiction of lady liberty walking towards the Sun on the obverse came to be one of the most popular designs in US coinage history. The reverse features a bald eagle ascending from a perched position. Weinmans initials appear on the reverse below the tips of the eagle’s tail feathers. Pieces struck in 1916 and some of 1917 display the mintmark (when visible) beneath ‘IN GOD WE TRUST’, to the right of Liberty on the obverse. All other pieces brandish the mintmark on the reverse, towards the left hand side under the tree. Walking Liberty half dollars were struck with the same parameters throughout its mintage, consisting of .900 silver, .100 copper, a net weight of .36169 oz. pure silver and a total weight of 12.50 grams. Also features a reeded edge and 30.6 mm diameter.
