Product Description
Civil War tokens are coins that were privately minted in the United States between 1861 and 1864, during the outbreak of the American Civil War. They were used primarily in the Northeast and Midwest. The widespread use of the tokens was a direct result of the scarcity of government-issued cents during the Civil War. An 1863 "Horrors of War" Civil War Token graded MS-62 Brown (BN) by NGC. This token features the F-37/256a die pattern, and depicts Patriotic die 37; 1863 French Liberty head "FOR PUBLIC ACCOMODATION", "ACCOMMODATION" spelled incorrectly on the obverse. On the reverse, Patriotic die 256 depicting 1863 Portrait of woman in wreath "HORRORS OF WAR/BLESSINGS OF PEACE". Dies were designed by William H. Bridgens. Toned a beautiful brown, it's an excellent original time period piece. Please buy with confidence, and ask any and all questions that may concern this gorgeous piece.
