A 1382 - 1400 Italian Grosso minted in Venice graded AU-55 by NGC. This piece exhibits an excellent strike and mostly legible lettering with very nice detail. Please view our photos for additional information. Total mintage is unknown.
Following the Venetian Grosso, many Italian states followed suit and minted their own coinage similar in purity and weight. A Grosso (plural Grossi) was originally allowed to fluctuate in market value based on the price of silver. However in 1332, the Grosso was standardized at 4 soldini or 48 denarii. The example you see here was minted in Venice, Italy from 1382 - 1400 and therefore does not bear a date.
