While Givenchy is well known for their high end clothing, they’ve also made an impact on jewelry over the last forty five years, with their chic collection from the 1970s and 1980s becoming highly collectable items, such as these dazzling gold tone earrings.

Origins

Givenchy was founded in 1952 by Frenchman Hubert de Givenchy. His clothing was designed primarily for women and immediately stood out thanks to its crisp silhouettes which enabled ladies to match and mix their pieces for distinct looks. Whereas most clothing of the era consisted of rigid pieces, Givenchy used simplistic materials combined with architectural lines.

Hubert de Givenchy then decided to expand into jewelry making in 1975. He wanted to produce lavish and bold designs which would be worn by glamour women and IT girls, and he did. Between 1977 and 1981 his fashion house produced what was arguably its finest work, with pieces that consisted of enameled earrings, extended snake chains and contemporary pendants.

Design Highlights

Women’s fashion in the 1980s was distinctive for its large hair, pronounced shoulder pads with accompanying jewelry. In response, Givenchy created a wide range of bold and golden jewelry which could be worn with their clothing. An example of this would be oversized clip-ons that were emblazoned using their famous 4G logo, or chunky chains, widened cuffs or gleaming bib necklaces.

This period of power fashion would continue during the early 1990s, particularly within the United States. However, change is inevitable, and by the mid to late 90s pared back Armani tonal styles had become fashionable, prompting Givenchy to switch to more silver, simple shapes and clean lines.

Givenchy jewelry is distinctive for its ability to be stacked. This means that ladies can places different pieces together so they can make an immediate impact while making their look stand out. An example of this would be stacking pendants with chains, rings, bracelets or necklaces. Unlike other designers, Givenchy also encourages extensive experimentation. In fact, some of their best looks have been discovered accidentally, and gone are the days where jewelry houses always depended on matching metals.

Features

Creativity is essential for high fashion. One of the latest trends in the fashion world is upgrading your everyday wear by donning necklaces, bracelets or golden earrings with casual clothes like t-shirts or jeans.

The key thing about vintage jewelry pieces are their ability to create a statement, both during the day or night. Combining the right chunky golden chain with jeans and a white t is a great way to project your boss lady energy onto the world while also highlighting your stylish elegance. Givenchy jewelry manufactured between 1975 and 1980 will feature designer stamps, while jewelry made during the 1980s and 1990s will showcase the “Givenchy” word.

These Givenchy gold toned earrings are vintage New York fashion. They clip on and display a sleek grooved design which was crafted in fine golden plate with a silicone backing. Though light surface wear is present, these earrings are free of significant cosmetic issues.
