Carl Bucherer is a designer famous for their fabulous watches and jewelry such as this vintage golden giraffe brooch. Below is a brief overview of their history and the characteristics which made their jewelry house world famous.

Origins

Founded in Switzerland in 1888, Bucherer was initially inspired by the color and sparkle of diamonds, which during his time were still a rarity. By 1919 he opened his first women’s watch collection which focused on the then emerging Art Deco style. Bucherer was one of the earliest watchmakers to incorporate watch straps, which during that time was considered revolutionary. During the 1920s his wife Mina also followed her passion, traveling the world to source various gemstones which could be used for atelier masterworks. At the cornerstone of Carl Bucherer is innovation and curiosity, to understand how things work and why.

The company’s success continued despite the World Wars and by the late 1940s the firm begin prioritizing sporty chronographs which showcased the current date prominently. By the conclusion of the 1960s the company had built approximately fifteen thousand certified and high precision chronometers, and had become one of the top Swiss producers to do so.

Design Highlights

This jewelry house recognized the importance of gems early on and rapidly developed the ability to meticulously choose the finest specimens. Their gems would then form the foundation for what would later become intricate jewelry which would maximize the prestige and sophistication of the women and men who adorned them. To achieve this Carl Bucherer employed Europe’s top polishers, goldsmiths and gem settlers, which brought new life to both diamonds and other gems.

The design manifested by Carl Bucherer products, both watches and jewelry, are the culmination of more than one hundred years of technological innovation, merging the best technical know-how with a devoted pioneering spirit. They have successfully fused craftsmanship with artistry, setting premium gems into every design with great attention to detail and care.

It is for this reason that Carl Bucherer products have been able to separate themselves from the competition, even their Swiss counterparts. Rare pearls, colored gemstones and gleaming diamonds surrounded by platinum or gold are just a preview of what Carl Bucherer is capable of. Enthusiasts have been dazzled by their incredible creations, especially the South Sea style pearls, fiery rubies and this golden giraffe. It is these factors which have enabled Carl Bucherer to become one of Europe’s most respected watchmakers and jewelers.
