Quick Overview

An early 1900's M.L. Brandt Cutlery Company Germany & New York 5/8 in. straight razor with it's original Shumate Razor Co. distributors box. The blade features a nice original grey patina with "The M.L. Brandt/Cutlery Company/Germany & New York" & "BEN-HUR" stamped on the tang and off white colored Bakelite handle. The blade on this razor is dull but can still cut through paper, will need to be re-honed by a professional honemeister. The pivot pin has loosened over the years making the blade loose and does not fall correctly into the Bakelite handle. The handle displays some discoloration and will need to be cleaned, however there are no cracks. Introduced in 1907, Bakelite was used to substitute celluloid, including the manufacturing of straight razor handle's. The M.L. Brandt Cutlery Company was in business from 1911-1916. The Shumate Razor Company was based originally in Austin, Texas from 1900-1920 and then in St. Louis, Missouri from 1920-1932 and was a large distributor of various straight razor brands. The original box has nice readable embossing however both ends are taped and some of the font is obstructed. The corners on the ends show some tears/breaks. Please view our photos for additional information and ask any questions prior to purchase.
