The Patek Philippe Power Reserve Moon (5085) is a watch that manages to distinguish itself in a brand known for its distinction, which is no easy feat. Along with the Nautilus, it is one of the few Patek luxury watches to incorporate metallic bracelets, and it has a classic look which is timeless with superb movement.

The Style

This watch is exceptionally streamlined and sharp in appearance. It has patriarchy written all over it, and is designed for those who give orders as opposed to taking them. Its polished steel combined with its black dial makes it the type of watch that you’d want to wear to high level business meetings, trade shows, negotiations and other business functions. It conveys a sense of power combined with style, sophistication and an uncompromising approach to life itself.

The Caseback

The Patek Philippe 5085 is available in two casebacks, which are solid metal and exhibition. The Calatrava insignia is present on both, and each case has a width of approximately 37 mm. This watch isn’t very big, with a size that is about the same as most Patek Philippe timepieces. The steel bezel is polished and rounded which makes it comfortable to wear. The markers for the hour and hands are utilitarian in appearance and the hands incorporate thin lume strips while the markers utilize lume squares. This creates an excellent contrast with the dark colored dials.

The Interior

The interior of this watch consists of an automatic movement (Patek Philippe 240) along with a micro rotor that is solid gold. It is impressive in appearance and is typical of what you’d expect from this watchmaker. The dial layout is completely asymmetrical yet well balanced visually. The movement is similar to other Patek watches and features the moon phase, time, dial for subsidiary seconds, indicator for power reserve and the date.

Although the Patek Power Reserve Moon shares a number of similarities with other Patek models it is distinct enough to set itself apart, which is a sign of a well-designed timepiece. It is not youthful nor is it purely designed for older individuals. It is designed for gentlemen who take themselves seriously but who are not boring. The steel gives it a rather humble demeanor yet still conveys the idea of reserved luxury.

Who This Watch Is Designed For

The Patek Philippe Power Reserve Moon is designed for men of means, who take their watch collecting seriously and who have the deep pockets needed to cover its high price tag. While it’s not the most expensive Patek Philippe watch on the market, it is definitely not for those looking for a bargain, as it carries a cost which is roughly the same as a brand new car. It is a high end watch that should be seen as an entry level into the brand.
